The Society of Actuaries hosted an important conference on "Modeling, Catastrophic Risks and Climate Impacts".
Cenk Yalçın, President of the Society of Actuaries, who gave the opening speech at the conference, which attracted great interest from members and insurance professionals, provided information on the activities of the Society and its goals for the coming period. Yalçın gave the good news that the EAJ (European Actuarial Journal) Conference, which will be held for the seventh time between September 9 and 11, 2026, will be hosted by the Association of Actuaries in Istanbul and stated that they will continue to organize events that bring together stakeholders in the industry.
Prof. Dr. Hansjoerg Albrecher, Head of the Department of Actuarial Sciences at the University of Lausanne and an internationally recognized expert in his field, was an invited speaker at the conference and gave a presentation entitled "Pooling of Climate Change and Natural Disaster Risks".
Erdem Karabostan, General Manager of T-Rupt, one of the companies supporting the event, gave a presentation on "CatMod Turkey Earthquake Model", while Lumnion CAO Aren Haddeler gave a presentation on "Dynamic Pricing and Optimization".
The event, which created an environment that encouraged interaction between participants and speakers, continued with a cocktail. In addition to the members of the association, the conference was attended by representatives of the insurance sector, Taylan Matkap, one of the former presidents of the association, Şenol Şentürk, Deputy Secretary General of TSB, Şebnem Yalçınkaya, Director of TSEV, and faculty members from METU, Hacettepe and Marmara Universities.
